Retail space in Phuket is not one market. A Patong shopfront, a Phuket Town shophouse, a Bang Tao lifestyle complex and a Kamala beach-corridor unit are all different businesses. The question is not “is there foot traffic?” The better question is: whose foot traffic, at what time, and what are they willing to buy?

Kamala’s story is not raw volume. Patong wins that. Kamala’s story is customer quality and setting: five-star hotels, private villas, Millionaire’s Mile, beach-club guests, families, couples and longer-stay residents who chose calm over chaos.

The Millionaire’s Mile effect

The road south of Kamala toward the headlands is often referred to as Millionaire’s Mile or Millionaire Row. It is associated with cliffside villas, ocean views, privacy and resorts like Andara and Paresa. These guests may not wander randomly like mall shoppers, but they are high-value if your product fits their stay.

That matters for retail. A villa guest may need resortwear, wine, flowers, good coffee, skincare, children’s beach gear, a gift, a private dinner add-on or a premium convenience stop. They may move through drivers, concierges and recommendations rather than traditional street browsing.

What retail fits Kamala

  • Resortwear, swimwear, linen, sandals and beach accessories that feel edited, not souvenir-driven.
  • Specialty food, bakery, wine, deli, coffee and villa-friendly convenience.
  • Wellness, skincare, fragrance, grooming, beauty and recovery services.
  • Design-led Thai craft, home objects, art, gifts and lifestyle retail.
  • Family services and quality children’s beach/travel essentials.

What does not fit as well

Kamala is weaker for businesses that need constant bargain traffic, late-night mass crowds or heavy walk-by volume every hour of the day. If a concept only works in Patong, it may not work here. If a concept benefits from a quieter, higher-spend, resort-led audience, Kamala becomes much more interesting.

For One MontAzure, the retail opportunity is to serve the day: breakfast, beach, errands, wellness, sunset, dinner. That is better than pretending Kamala needs another ordinary row of shops.
