Kamala is easy to misunderstand if you only look at a map. It sits close enough to Patong to be convenient, but it does not behave like Patong. The point of Kamala is the calmer rhythm: a long bay, a proper village behind the beach, high-end resorts at the northern end, and the villa headlands of Millionaire’s Mile to the south.
That mix is why Kamala is becoming more interesting. It is not trying to be Phuket’s loudest beach. It is better than that: a place where families, couples, long-stay guests, villa owners and resort guests can spend a full day without feeling trapped in a tourist strip.
Start with the right part of the beach
For swimming and a simple beach day, the northern and central sections of Kamala are usually the better bet. The sand is wide, the water is calmer in high season, and the beach does not feel as cluttered as Phuket’s busier areas. Phuket101 notes that the southern end can be less attractive after rain because of streams, brown water and fishing boats, so do not assume every part of the bay feels the same.
High season, roughly November to April, is when Kamala is at its easiest: clearer water, gentler sea, better sunset routines. In the monsoon months, especially May to October, red flags matter. The beach can still look beautiful from the road while the water is not safe for swimming.
Choose a route by mood, not by attractions
- Morning swim or beach walk on the central/northern beach before the heat builds.
- Casual lunch at a beachfront Thai restaurant if you want sand, fruit shakes and no pressure.
- Late afternoon at Pine Beach Bar if you want a polished resort sundowner, or Café del Mar if you want more beach-club energy.
- Family evening at Phuket FantaSea or Carnival Magic if you are travelling with kids and want an easy night close by.
- Short drive south toward the Millionaire’s Mile headland if you want cliff views, villas and the quieter luxury side of Kamala.
Laem Singh and Surin are close enough to mention, but be honest about logistics. Surin is beautiful but, after repeated beach-clearance rules, has far fewer vendors and beach services than people remember. Laem Singh is scenic, but access is not the easy old staircase anymore; it usually means a rocky walk from Surin or a boat when conditions allow.
Why Kamala feels different
The helpful insider point is that Kamala has two personalities. The village and central beach are relaxed and specific. The north and south edges bring a much more premium audience: InterContinental, Twinpalms MontAzure, Café del Mar, Andara, Paresa, Keemala and private villa traffic around Millionaire’s Mile. That creates a different kind of guest from the bargain-and-nightlife crowd.
One MontAzure sits in that northern Kamala story. Its role should be simple: not another anonymous mall, but a compact place for food, tea, convenience, wellness and lifestyle stops that make the beach day easier.
Quick notes
Where is One MontAzure?
In north Kamala Beach, Phuket, close to Café del Mar, InterContinental Phuket Resort and the MontAzure community.
What is the project?
An open-air dining, retail and wellness destination opening Q4 2026, with selected opportunities still available for concepts that fit Kamala’s beach-lifestyle audience.
